Introduced: 1980

Length: 8km

Eastern Terminus: Midland Hwy (NH1) & Black Brush Rd (C186), Mangalore

Western Terminus: Elderslie Rd (C185) & Black Brush Rd (C186), 8km west of Mangalore

Route taken: Black Brush Rd

Focal Points: (Broadmarsh), Mangalore

Responsibility: Local Government

C186 is a short, mostly unsealed, route linking the Midland Highway village of Mangalore with Broadmarsh and the other villages in the Jordan River valley. It is mainly used by local traffic, as most tourist traffic prefers route C185 to/from Brighton.

The route is sealed for the eastern 1.2km from Mangalore, becoming a decent quality unsealed road for the journey through rolling farmland. It joins route C185 immediately after crossing a single-lane concrete bridge over the Jordan River which has been raised above flood level.

The fingerboard signs referring to C186 at the western end of the route are missing, meaning that C186 is currently only signed at the junction with Midland Highway (NH1). This makes the route a one-hit wonder.

There is no fingerboard sign pointing traffic along Black Brush Rd (C186), only this lowly street name blade sign at the junction with Elderslie Rd (C185). This absence of signage makes C186 a one-hit wonder.
