Route A6 is an east-west route connecting the CBD and South Road with Adelaide Airport and the western beaches. It is heavily used between the Airport and the CBD and contains a line of bridges across hte railway lines and various roads at Hilton. The only major construction on the route thus far has been the construction of the new Hilton Bridges (completed in February 1987) which replaced old timber bridges on a high embankment, constructed in the 1920s. The only construction project currently affecting the route is the City West Connector, which will connect Railway Tce with South Road through Mile End South.

A6 was introduced in 1998 and prior to that it was unnumbered.
