C240 is a short east-west connector route in south-eastern Australia; an extension of the Victorian Wimmera Highway and route B240. It was introduced in 1998/99, replacing the former State Route 130 which was also an extension of a Victorian route into South Australia. The route is yet to be signposted properly with the route number absent on a large number of direction signs.
Somewhat amusingly, the SA Border to Horsham section of Wimmera Highway was originally to be signed as C240 and as such the SA section was signposted C240 to match. However, in 2003 it was decided to signpost the Victorian section as B240 in its entirity and the South Australian section remains as the only section of C240.
Notable Events:
June 1955 - Wimmera Highway named in SA as a continuation of the Victorian highway.1
1998/99 - Route C240 introduced, replacing State Route 130
