Route Overview:
State Route 70 was a major north-south radial route to the eastern suburbs, using Anzac Parade and Bunnerong Rd. The route was first introduced in 1974 - extending from South Dowling St at Darlinghurst all the way to La Perouse via Anzac Pde and Bunnerong Rd. In 1994 the section of the route south of Botany Rd was decommissioned and ten years later, in June 2004, the remainder of the route was decommissioned.
Notable events:
Mar 1917 - Anzac Parade opened to traffic
1974 - Route introduced (South Dowling St, Darlinghurst to La Perouse)
1986 - Kingsford Nine-Ways Roundabout constructed
1994 - Route truncated at Botany Rd, Matraville
2004 - SR70 decommissioned
