Route Overview:
State Route 30 was a radial route through Sydney's north west, ultimately providing an alternate route for SR40 (Victoria Rd/Windsor Rd) from Ryde to Kellyville. Most of the route was 4-lanes undivided (Pennant Hills Rd was widened after SR30 was decomissioned), except Showground Rd which was 2-lane undivided. The section from Ryde to Pennant Hills loosley followed the original Great North Road from Sydney to Newcastle via Wisemans Ferry. SR30 was proclaimed in 1974 and officially decomissioned in October 1993, when Metroad 2 replaced the route north/west of Epping. Two remnants of the route still remain at the intersection of Blaxland Rd & Epping Rd, Epping. Everything else is long gone, a major signposting job being done following its designation as Metroad 2.

July 1995 - Pennant Hills Rd section widened to 6 lanes and Thompsons Cnr grade-separated
