Introduced: 1980

Length: 12km

Eastern Terminus: Golconda Rd (B81) & Tunnel Rd (C820), 7km north of Lilydale

Western Terminus: Bangor Rd (C811) & The Paling Track (C820), Bangor

Route taken: The Paling Track, Bacala Rd, Tunnel Rd

Focal Points: Bangor

Responsibility: Local Government

C820 is a mostly unsealed east-west route linking the tiny localities of Bangor, Bacala and Tunnel in northern Tasmania. The locality of Tunnel is named such because it is the location of a tunnel on the presently disused North East Railway Line (Launceston - Scottsdale - Herrick) which passes through the ridge on which Tunnel Rd (C820) sits.

Note that the fingerboard signs are actually not facing Cowards Rd and can only be read by through traffic along C820 - this unusual situation is not uncommon in north-eastern Tasmania.

Typical of rural roads in Tasmania, Bacala Rd (C820) follows property lines rather than the other way around. As a consequence, Bacala Rd runs directly north, before negotiating a couple of right angle bends to continue its northerly course. This view is looking south from the southern bend, 1km north of The Paling Track (C820).
