Introduced: 1980

Northern Terminus: Tasman Highway (A3) & South Springfield Rd (C406), Springfield

Southern Terminus: South Springfield Rd (C406) & Diddluem Rd, South Springfield

Route taken: South Springfield Rd, Ten Mile Track, South Springfield Rd

Responsibility: Local Government

C406 is an 8km long, sealed spur route in north-eastern Tasmania, linking the Tasman Highway (A3) at Springfield with the tiny hamlet of South Springfield. The route includes a very short (~50m long), poorly signed duplex with C407 (Ten Mile Track), 2km south of Springfield.

Perusal of a map of the area will show that Diddleum Rd - a Forestry Tasmania road - appears to be a logical extension of C406 to link with C405 (Camden Hill Rd/Camden Rd) near Tayene. Early plans for alpha-numeric route marking in Tasmania included this section of C406, however it had been deleted from the scheme by the time the first public map was released in 1981.
