PRINCES HIGHWAY
Former Alignment: Sutherland

The Princes Highway originally passed through the centre of Sutherland, in Sydney's south. In September 1975 the Sutherland Bypass opened to traffic, providing dual carriageway conditions for 2.6km between Kirrawee and Loftus. The old highway still remains traffickable, made up by todays streets named: Old Princes Highway and Rawson Avenue.

At the time of the bypass opening, the entire route was two-lane single carriageway. However, in December 1986 a four-lane bridge across the railway line was opened to traffic and with it came the widening of Old Princes Highway between Belmont St and Acacia Rd to six lanes.

The Old Princes Hwy between Belmont St and Acacia Rd is now part of Main Road No. 663, while the rest of the old highway is a local road owned by Sutherland Shire Council.
