PACIFIC HIGHWAY
Section: Raymond Terrace

Signage for Pacific Highway on Richardson Road. Oct 2004.

The Pacific Highway bypasses Raymond Terrace on a 7.6km dual carriageway bypass opened in December 1998. Originally, the Highway passed through Raymond Terrace via Adelaide Street. Land was acquired to widen this route to a six-lane divided carriageway and widening was undertaken on some sections. However, to avoid severing the built up area the Northumberland County planners sought an ultimate highway alignment that would bypass the built up area of Raymond Terrace. A reservation had been gazetted for many years by the time construction was commenced in November 1993. The bypass was planned to have only two lanes at first, but additional Federal funding allowed the completion of the four-lane bypass in one stage. The Raymond Terrace Bypass was opened to traffic in December 1998.
