REMNANTS OF NATIONAL ROUTE 1
On Princes Highway between Tailem Bend and Victoria

NR1 RD sign heading west from the Kingston-Bordertown Road near Kingston. Jan 2005.

From 1955 until 1998 the Princes Highway from Tailem Bend to Victoria was signed as National Route 1. When Transport SA officially decommissioned the route, replacing it with the B1 and A1 designations, they did not do a great job replacing the signs. As of January 2005 you are more likely to see a NR1 sign that B1 sign between Tailem Bend and Mount Gambier. However, I did spot sign crews erecting signs at Beachport so perhaps they have finally got their act together. Anyway, here are some of the NR1 signs I managed to take photos of.
