PRINCES HIGHWAY
Former Alignment: Tailem Bend

As was traditional with South Australian highways at the time, upon naming in 1938 the Princes Highway was routed via Tailem Bend Post Office and Railway Station, via South Terrace, Railway Terrace and North Terrace. The highway followed this rather circuitous alignment through Tailem Bend until May 1979 when the completion of the dual carriageway between Swanport Bridge and Dukes Highway meant the highway took a more direct route bypassing the town centre. These trailblazers still remain in town showing the old highway route.
