Description:
State Route 2 is New South Wales' newest State Route, created in 2008 following the opening of the Tugun Bypass project which moved Pacific Highway onto a new alignment north of Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads. The route is a simple southerly extension of State Route 2 in Queensland, which was also extended from Tugun to the NSW Border following completion of the Tugun Bypass.
Within NSW the route generally comprises a four-lane, dual carriageway road with no direct property access. A grade-separated junction with Pacific Highway provides access to Kennedy Drive and the reconstructed Pacific Highway. Prior to completion of the Tugun Bypass, this route was part of the Pacific Highway, constructed in 1985 as part of Stage 1 of the Tweed Heads Bypass project.
More information on the remainder of State Route 2, in Queensland, will be forthcoming.
