PRINCES HIGHWAY
Former Alignment: Tomerong
The Princes Highway originally passed through the tiny township of Tomerong, approximately 20km south of Nowra. A deviation around town, bypassing some rather narrow sections of highway through a heavily wooded area, opening to traffic in July 1995. The old highway can now be followed as Hawken Road, although it is split into two sections by the deviation just north of Islands Point Road. No National Route 1 remnants remain, however, there are still two "standard green" painted kilometre posts along the old highway.
