Length: 4km

Northern Terminus: Federal Hwy & Barton Hwy, Lyneham

Southern Terminus: Vernon Circle, Canberra

Route continuation: NR23 continues south through as Commonwealth Ave. It gains National Highway status at the north end of Northbourne Ave and continues north as the Federal Hwy into NSW.

Focal Points: Gungahlin/Goulburn/Yass, City/Woden/Queenbeyan/Cooma

Route Overview:

Northbourne Ave is the wide-tree lined boulevard that provides the major entrance to Canberra City. Traffic from both the Federal and Barton Highways combines at its northern end to head south to the city. It is 6 lanes with a wide grassed median but way too many traffic signals. Not that it matters too much with the lack of traffic problems in Canberra. The route was constructed in the 1930's and duplicated in the 1960's.
