ALTERNATE NATIONAL ROUTE 23
Southern Terminus: Monaro Hwy/Canberra Ave/Ipswich St, Fyshwick

This interchange marks the southern terminus of Alt-23, also the unsigned western terminus of National Route 52. The interchange was fully opened in 1991 after the Monaro Hwy extension from Hume to Fyshwick was completed in 1989. Prior to this, this location was the intersection of Canberra Ave/Ipswich St/Hindmarsh Dr, the latter being re-routed to meet Newcastle St in 1989.

Grade separation is provided for Monaro Hwy traffic, while Canberra Ave and Ipswich St meet below the Monaro Hwy overpass. Alt-23 signs point traffic up Ipswich St from Canberra Ave to join the Monaro Hwy at Newcastle Street.
